What is Mosaic?

Mosaic is also an art form, in this small pieces of natural stone are cut in small squares and then geographic, floral, celtic [celtik] or pictoral designs are made by pasting these small pieces, all the designs and colors are generated using different types of natural stones.

Process

First design is sketched on the paper, this design is in the same proportion of the actual Mosaic design required. then different color is marked in the design, for example-green for leaves, red for flowers etc, then small pieces of natural stone are made, usually of size 1 CM x 1 CM, normal thickness is 5 MM, then all these pieces are assembled on the paper, the edges of the Mosaic pieces is rounded and cut as per the design, the whole design is made as different color pieces of natural stones, all these Mosaic stone pieces are pasted on the base stone using epoxy. then it is allowed to dry for few days and then mirror polished as per requirements.

A new form of Mosaic is also generated in which instead of taking little square pieces, the natural stone pieces are much bigger in size and are tightly pasted with each other to form the design, this is called stone overlay, stone overlay is beautiful and economical to do. Popular design of marble stone overlay are star shapes, squares celtic knots and other celtik designs.
